Loving Yourself With Healthy Food

By Dr. Margaret Paul

Eating well can be a big challenge. Here is what I do that's loving to me.

health, healthy food, healthy eating, food and healthDue to my mostly abundant health and energy, numerous people have asked me how I eat, so here goes. Please do not get discouraged by what I'm about to write – it took me many years to learn to do all this and to have the motivation to bring all this into my life. Like everything, it's been a process, and continues to be a process as I gain new information. For those of you who are vegan or vegetarian, I hope you accept that my body doesn't do well without animal protein, and it's all from regenerative farms. I got very ill trying to be a vegetarian.

Breakfast

I purchase organic grass-fed milk, such as SuperNatural, at a health food store, I make Bulgarian yogurt and kefir, and I drip them in muslin bags because I like them thick. A great site for fermenting foods is culturesforhealth.com. For breakfast, I eat the yogurt and kefir with various nuts, seeds, and berries, raw fermented applesauce that I make, and a little stevia. As I said, I'm not a vegan or vegetarian  (all of our bodies are different), but it does work well for some people.

Lunch

For lunch I have a pile of different veggies steamed in bone broth, which I make, and I add some animal protein – organic pastured eggs, chicken, wild-caught fish, organic grass-fed meats (that I get at a local farm). I pile it on my homemade sauerkraut and my homegrown sprouts.

Dinner

I make organic sprouted sourdough bread from organic sprouted rye and einkorn (I don’t eat wheat because it’s been hybridized and has super-gluten, which hurts my muscles). I also make organic sprouted basmati rice. For dinner I either have a small sandwich with my sourdough bread, raw organic cheese, avocado, sprouts, organic raw butter, and smoked wild caught salmon, or I have the grains with bone broth, cheese, avocado, and smoked salmon. Dinner is very small, Un-sprouted grains are not healthy because they have a coating on them that contains phytic acid to protect them from bugs, and this isn’t good for people. Sprouted grains are more like vegetables and are much easier to digest.

By staying in touch with my body, I've learned what works and what doesn't. I eat no sugar, no ultra-processed foods, and no industrial seed oils, such as safflower, sunflower, soy, canola, corn, etc. These are extremely toxic, especially for the brain, which needs natural fats, not processed oils. I stick with olive oil, avocado oil, and a little cocoanut oil. I mostly eat single ingredient foods.

Time

Obviously, all this takes time. How do I find the time? I don't really know! I suppose when something is important to you, you find the time. It's not like I have extra time on my hands! I generally go to bed by 9, get up at 5, and do two hours of work – answering email, administering the website, doing social media and writing. Then I take a 30-minute walk with my dog while I do my morning Inner Bonding process. Between clients, courses, email, interviews for summits, podcasts, web admin, writing, and social media, I work about 50 hours a week. In between, I find the time to make my food and do creative things, as well as play fun games with my Golden Girl best friend, Erika. I also read a lot. There actually is time for all of it! Even with all the hours I work and sleep, there are still many hours a week left. One of the reasons I have the time is that I don’t watch TV – other than movies I watch with Erika, and I don’t spend much time on social media or the Internet.

You will find the time to make healthy food if it’s important to you.

Daily Inspiration

What question governs your waking moments? Are you unconsciously governed by the question, "How can I have control over feeling safe?" Or, are you consciously guided by the question, "What is loving to myself and others?" The first question leads to anger, blame, withdrawal, numbness, resistance, compliance and defensiveness. The second question leads to connection with your spiritual Guidance and the loving evolution of your soul.
