Embracing Intuition

Intuition is an intrinsic part of every human being. You may believe in it or not, use it or not. It does not matter. It is always there. It speaks to us all the time.

Native people around the world have always had a deep appreciation for intuition. It was considered a gift used by royal advisers and medicine men/women.

Advancement in technology, and the dawn of the age of reason pushed away intuition, while mind/intellect got the spotlight. As intuition is not tangible, it gets easily dismissed. However great inventors and successful people always talk about their intuition; guidance it provided while pursing their creative urges and desires.

Oprah Winfrey said: "I always followed my intuition." when she was asked how did she become so successful?

Sceptics think of intuition as a power that needs to be more persuasive. It should give them outline for a particular problem, provide certainty, and make sure that their discomfort is minimal. Intuition is not there to ease your discomfort but to help you tap into your inner wisdom, bring it into the world, and live a fulfilling and balanced life.

The voice of intuition is very soft, and an overactive mind has trouble hearing it. Being in constant worry, judgment, blaming, angry, or on the go all the time do not allow for intuition to be heard either.

Intuition speaks to you because you have been asking some questions or you have some desires. Your can be conscious of your questions/desires or not. It can come as insight, knowing, a gut feeling or simply an aha moment.

Intuition provides guidance in the present moment. Taking steps based on that guidance makes thing happen or not.

If your ego wounded self hears the soft message of intuition, it automatically goes into 'attorney' mode, and starts a cross-examination, asking for a proof, or asks: Why? Since there is no reassurance the message gets dismissed or rationalized. The ego wounded self would never take actions based on intuition.

If the loving adult hears a message he/she pays attention to it, follows a lead, takes actions in the present moment, and has faith. When steps are taken a lead is given again. However between the steps there can be time when you do not get any leads from your intuition. You have to learn to live with the unknown. This is the phase that the ego wounded self absolutely dislikes. Many fears and doubts get stirred up; the need to control kicks in. If your loving adult is not strong enough, you may give in to those fears and doubts, and reaffirm that intuition does not work.

Intuition is a voice of your true self, soul, wise self, higher self - however you call it talking to you. The message is for your highest good. There are a number of ways you could nurture the voice of your intuition.

  • Go on an information/high tech diet. If you love to hoard information or love high tech devices you are constantly in doing mode, while your being mode is either very short or non-existent. A noise coming from too much mental and high tech clutter does not allow you to hear your intuition.
  • Spend regular time in silence. It does not mean mediation only. It is any activity that would allow you to sink back into your body. To hear your intuition you need to drop from your head into your heart.
  • Learn to discern the voice of intuition from the voice of your ego wounded self. It takes practice, tuning in, staying present in the body with the feelings. Voice of ego wounded self is laud, critical and demanding. You feel anxious or agitated after hearing it. The voice of intuition is soft. It leaves you feeling peaceful.
  • Take action on intuitive messages and strengthen relationship with your intuition. When you hear an intuitive message you would need to take actions based on it. As you take them more steps would be revealed to you. You would never be given all the steps at once.

While living from your ego wounded self always feels draining, being a loving adult who honours intuition feels very peaceful.

"The intellect has little to do on the road to discovery. There comes a leap in consciousness, call it intuition or what you will, and the solution comes to you and you don't know how or why." - Albert Einstein
